National Dog Bite Awareness Week

June 4-10 marks 2023 National Dog Bite Awareness Week.

The United States Postal Service publicizes the tradition to bring awareness to this important public health issue—more than 5,300 postal employees were attacked by dogs last year.

Postal Carriers are important public servants who deliver our letters, birthday cards, postcards, documents, parcels and even life-critical medications. Keeping their work environment as safe as possible by securing our pets is the least we can do for a functional postal system.

This year’s theme is “Even good dogs have bad days.” Mail carriers know all dogs can bite, even those perceived as nonaggressive.

For calendar year 2022, the City of Phoenix and San Antonio, TX tied in 9th place with 32 reported attacks in each city.
